مولانا پس از گذشت چند سال و در پی عشق، دوباره راهی دمشق شد و با جمعی از مردم به آنجا سفر کرد. در دمشق غوغایی تازه آفرید و این همه شگفتی و عشق‌ورزی او را همه تحسین کردند. مردم با خود می‌گفتند که این چه شور و عشقی است، که تا به حال ندیده و نشنیده‌ایم. مولانا ماهها در دمشق مستقر شد، اما عاشقی چون او هیچ‌گاه از عشق آرام نمی‌گیرد. او روز و شب بی‌وقفه و با شوق به پیمانهٔ عشق لبریز می‌کرد.

نی چنین شوق در کسی دیدیم
ماهها در دمشق ساکن شد
